Martin House Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care and family support for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. We support babies, children, young people and their families across Yorkshire, offering care, compassion and dignity when it matters most.
We are now seeking an inspiring and committed Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and help shape the next chapter of Martin House’s journey.
A unique opportunity
Our £21.9 million transformation project – THE BUILD is nearing completion, delivering world-class facilities that will transform the care we provide. As Chair of Trustees, you will guide Martin House through this pivotal period and into an exciting future , ensuring we fully realise the potential of our new facilities while continuing to innovate in specialist paediatric palliative care.
Our current Chair is retiring following the completion of THE BUILD project, after several years of dedicated service. This creates a rare opportunity to take on a leadership role at a moment of real impact and change.
The role
As Chair of Trustees, you will:

Provide strong, inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees

Ensure high standards of governance, accountability and strategic oversight

Work closely with the Chief Executive to support and challenge the organisation

Lead the delivery of our Strategic Plan and long-term vision
-
Champion Martin House’s values, ethos and mission
-
Act as an ambassador for the charity with key stakeholders and partners
This is a voluntary role, but one that offers the chance to make a profound difference to the lives of children, young people and families.

About you
We are looking for someone who:

Shares our values and commitment to improving outcomes for children and families

Has experience of leadership at board or senior level

Brings strategic thinking, sound judgement and integrity

Is able to build strong relationships and lead collaboratively

Has the time and commitment to fulfil the responsibilities of the role
Previous chair experience is welcome but not essential.
