Antenatal and neonatal support

If a serious medical problem is discovered during pregnancy or after your baby is born, Martin House can support you to understand your options and make plans. The team work closely with foetal medicine, obstetricians, midwives and neonatal units, so you can make informed decisions to make sure your baby gets appropriate interventions and is kept comfortable.

Family-led care

We offer family-led care, enabling you to care for your baby as you would like, with as much or as little support as you choose.

We offer a home-from-home environment respecting your privacy as a family. Visitors are welcome at any time. We provide care for the whole family, including grandparents, brothers and sisters.

The team can be involved to discuss what palliative care might look like for your baby and family. This can help inform and support difficult decision making.

24-hour support

Our care team provides 24-hour specialist medical cover, 7 days a week. We also work closely with local midwives to enable mums to stay at the hospice and still receive the community postnatal care they need.

We are involved in care planning, including end of life care planning, to ensure anyone who is looking after your child has clear guidance.

Community care

We offer care and support to families in their own homes or in hospital. This can include:

  • home visits
  • regular care (including symptom control on the ward or at home)
  • end of life care

Creating lasting memories

We recognise the importance of making lasting memories and help your family to create special mementos of your time together.

After your baby has died

We offer the option for your baby to be looked after for up to five days after their death in a specially cooled cot. You may choose to be in the hospice or at home during this time. This provides an opportunity to spend precious, quality time close to your baby.

We have an experienced Family Support team who can support you following your baby's death

A member of the team will contact you to introduce themselves and your bereavement support options.
