Peter’s London Marathon in memory of his baby girl, Sam

Peter has got super active in the past to fundraise for us, and now he’s decided to take on the mighty London Marathon to fundraise in memory of his daughter Sam, who sadly passed away aged 20 weeks.

Peter told us what inspired him to sign up, as well as his favourite running routes and music:

Why did you choose to do the London Marathon in support of us?

‘In 2013, we sadly lost our baby girl Sam at 20 weeks due to complications with her heart. We had a lot of support from local charities and during this time we were introduced to the work Martin House does for families. Since then, we have looked at ways that we can fundraise for Martin House — from joining the Colour Runs, to taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks and even walking all 56 miles of the Nidderdale way in less than 24 hours. So the next logical step seemed to be the London Marathon.’

Where is your favourite place to run?

‘How Hill, just outside Ripon. It’s the highest point around and there is a great view from the top.’

Favourite running music?

‘Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5, One Way by the Levellers, Basket Case by Green Day and Human by the Killers.’

Top training tip?

‘Finding “the zone” to get around the long training runs.’

What will you be having for your pre-race breakfast?

‘Maybe some breakfast biscuits and a banana, although I’ve not quite decided yet!’

Have you ever done the London Marathon before?

‘I was due to run the London marathon in 2020, but sadly this got cancelled due to Covid, so I have been waiting two years to be able to run. It’s been a long road to get back into training again, but I’m looking forward to the 2022 event.’

Do you have a social media account or JustGiving page?

‘Yes! You can donate to my JustGiving page.’

If you are running for us in the London Marathon, you can tell us about your own training, goals and tips by filling in our London Marathon profile form.

If you’re interested in signing up one of our London Marathon 2023 places, or fundraising for us after getting a ballot place, you can find out more on our London Marathon page.
