Laura is running with her colleagues as she takes on the Great North Run for the first time!
Laura told us about her top tips and training in the lead up to the big half marathon:
Why did you choose to do the Great North Run in support of us?
‘Martin House is an amazing charity that not only provides support to children and young people, but also support to those families which is just as important. It will be a true honour to do the Great North Run wearing my Martin House t-shirt.’
Where is your favourite place to run?
‘As we have been training as a team with work colleagues, my favourite runs have actually been the ones just near our work where it’s been a great opportunity to practice running, but also a chance to catch up and get to know colleagues better outside of the workplace.’
Favourite running music?
‘I love a real mix of music, but certainly some ’80s or dance music. However, I have to be careful with the dance music as sometimes it sets me off on a pace that is too fast! I also listen to audio books as this helps keep a slower consistent pace.’
Top training tip?
‘Start with a slow, steady pace, remember it’s a half marathon, not a sprint!’
What will you be having for your pre-race breakfast?
‘Likely some porridge and plenty of water! Maybe a couple of Haribo star mix?!’
Have you ever done the Great North Run before?
‘No, first time but hopefully not the last!’
