Jenny fundraises in memory of her son Lucas

Jenny is running the Great North Run for us in memory of her son Lucas, who was under our care.

She told us about what inspires her, along with her training tips and goals:

Why did you choose to do the Great North Run in support of us?

‘My baby son Lucas died of SMA (a genetic disease that affects nerves and muscles, causing muscles to become increasingly weak) at Martin House in 2008. I can never thank them enough for the care and support we received as a family.’

Where is your favourite place to run?

‘I live in Skipton and there are so many beautiful places to run just outside my front door.’

Favourite running music?

‘I’m listening to a podcast at the moment called ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Buddha’ and I also love a bit of Billie Eilish.’

Top training tip?

‘Get a running buddy! I find the boredom of running the hardest bit when training for a long distance run.’

What will you be having for your pre-race breakfast?

‘Coffee and toast.’

Have you ever done the Great North Run before?

‘No, although I grew up in the North East so it has a special place in my heart.’

Do you have a social media account or JustGiving page?

‘Yes. I have Facebook, and you can donate to my JustGiving page.’

If you are running for us in the Great North Run, you can tell us about your own training, goals and tips by filling in our Great North Run profile form.
