Adrian’s Great North Run in memory of Grace

We love hearing about what inspires our wonderful supporters, so we’re inviting our Great North Runners to talk us through their training goals, tips and times to beat.

Here’s what Adrian had to say:

Why did you choose to do the Great North Run in support of us?

‘The incredible Martin House team cared for my niece Grace during her all too short journey on this mortal coil, as well as going above and beyond to support her parents Justin and Stacey. For 15 years our family has been championing this incredible charity, while keeping the torch of love and hope that Grace ignited in all of us burning bright.’

Where is your favourite place to run?

‘Running clears the mind and strengthens the body, and there’s no better place to do that than the incredible Yorkshire countryside. I run down the old railway line near Wetherby.’

Favourite running music?

‘I used to run with music blasting, but during the pandemic I ditched the headphones for the sound of silence (quite literally back in March 2020), and I haven’t turned back.’

Top training tip?

‘I have learned to embrace nipple plasters on race days.’

What will you be having for your pre-race breakfast?

‘I read years ago that on race days Mo Farrah eats porridge mixed with sliced apple and banana. It’s hard to argue with Sir Mo – I’ll have what Mo’s having.’

Have you ever done the Great North Run before?

‘This year will be my ninth Great North Run.’

Do you have a social media account or JustGiving page?

‘Yes, I have set up a JustGiving page you can donate to.’

If you are running for us in the Great North Run, you can tell us about your own training, goals and tips by filling in our Great North Run profile form.
