With the Great North Run just days away, we’re getting to know another of our fantastic runners taking on the challenge for Martin House. Next up is Councillor Connor Mulhall, Mayor of Wetherby and a proud supporter of Martin House as his Mayoral Charity.
When I became Mayor, I challenged myself to do something and step out my comfort zone. At school, I tried everything in my power to get out of cross country and any form of running! This year Martin House is my Mayoral Charity and I know the fantastic work they do, so it seemed a great fit to challenge myself for a worthy cause.
Last year I over-trained and ended up with an injury, so it is a more relaxed affair this year! Music is a big part of my routine and I try to keep focused on the beat of the tune. I love to explore new routes around Wetherby and the villages which keeps the runs fresh and engaging.
Don’t be afraid to ask – if you don’t ask, you don’t get! When you mention Martin House, everyone is really supportive of the charity and they will help out in any way they can. If you have a money collection tin, these can be handy as the small bits of loose change all add up.
Get involved as much as you can with the group who will be running on the day. It has been a fantastic experience to meet fellow Martin House runners to share hints and tips. I was really worried about running the GNR, however after listening to other runner’s experiences and tips, I am fully prepared!
We’re incredibly grateful to Connor and all of our Team Martin House runners for putting in the miles, raising vital funds and helping us continue to support local families. Good luck for Sunday – we’ll be cheering for you every step of the way.
