Megan’s marathon training tips!

Megan is one of our nurses and is taking on the London Marathon for us.

Here’s what Megan had to say:

Why did you choose to do the London Marathon in support of us?

‘I’ve seen first-hand how valuable the work Martin House does for children, young people and their families through working as a nurse on the team. The variety of what Martin House offers from respite care, symptom management, end-of-life care and care after death is so important and I want to support Martin House to continue to be able to offer this to as many families as possible as it really is so important.’

Where is your favourite place to run?

‘I love running in new places as the different scenery makes the run go so much quicker, that’s one of the reasons I’m looking forward to the London marathon!’

Favourite running music?

‘Whilst training I usually listen to podcasts but for races my brother created me a playlist which has a real variety of music on from different genres and not knowing what’s coming next makes the run pass quicker.’

Top marathon training tip?

‘View the plan as guidance. 16 weeks is a long time and lots of things will come up and you’ll have to adapt and change the plan to fit around life! Accepting this is something I’ve had to learn but makes the whole process much more enjoyable.’

What will you be having for your pre-race breakfast?

‘I usually have porridge but as I’ll be away from home for the London Marathon I may have to find something different to have!’

Have you ever run a marathon before?

‘Yes, I have run two marathons before but never the London Marathon and I’m really looking forward to it!’
