Shining a light on the challenges for parents

For most families, a trip to the swimming pool is a simple pleasure. But for families caring for a child with a life-shortening or complex condition, it’s often impossible. That’s why, as part of phase two of THE BUILD, we are creating something truly special – a hydrotherapy and sensory pool, designed to offer children comfort, relief, and special moments with the people who love them most.
Ruby and Sophia live with a rare genetic condition that causes sudden and unpredictable episodes where they stop breathing, sometimes multiple times a day. Their parents, Lyndsey and Kevin, know this fear all too well.
“Every time it happens, you ask yourself, is this it?”
Because of the risks and the specialist care the girls need, swimming together as a family has never been possible until now. The new hydrotherapy pool will be designed with accessibility and safety at its heart, so families like theirs can share that most ordinary yet extraordinary of moments: being together in the water.
“It will be life changing. To swim safely with Ruby and Sophia, and their brother Alex, in a space where they are supported, and we can relax together, we’ve never had that.”
Our pool will be fully accessible to children with complex health conditions and limited mobility, with an integrated hoist direct from a family changing room to the pool to safely transfer children and young people to and from the water.
We’ve made incredible progress with THE BUILD, but we need your help to complete this crucial phase.
Your donation will support the creation of the hydrotherapy pool, giving hundreds of children and their families the chance to enjoy comfort, healing, and connection.
Lyndsey says:
“Martin House has been a lifeline since the girls were babies. Now we want to help build something that will be a lifeline for so many more families, too.”
Donate today to help bring the hydrotherapy pool to life.
