“Our case load is over 500 children currently, we invite those children, their siblings and family to attend the Christmas party together. We make sure we know who’s coming, so that the child, and their siblings get a present to take home with them.”
“A really special Christmas memory I have, is singing carols to a family. The young person was in because he was nearing the end of his life and couldn’t come to the Christmas party. So, we took Christmas to the family, and sang to them. To be able to bring something to them, to include them and for them to be part of the Christmas party we were holding at the time, was incredible.
To be able to provide a number of things, looking after a child’s health needs, but also, the really important part of play, and fun. Making memories, not just for the child or young person, but also the family as well. For them all to be able to come together, and have that time together is incredibly important. That might be over a number of years, with short, planned breaks. But that also might be as someone becomes more unwell and they need some symptom management. Or even that terrible time as they approach death.”
My Christmas wish is that we can continue to provide the much-needed care and support and to be able to facilitate more magical moments, for families who need us.
Please help us to raise vital funds this Christmas, so that we can help families to make and treasure such special memories of every precious Christmas they have with their child.
ÂŁ10 could help to keep our phone lines running, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. So, that families can call us anytime they need us.
ÂŁ30 could help to pay for a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, for a family staying at Martin House to enjoy together.
ÂŁ50 could help bring the magic to our family Christmas party, helping to fund those extra little touches and activities that make it so special.
