"We call Martin House Thomas’ holiday hospital”
For Bethany and Jack, THE BUILD will give their family new experiences and make stays at Martin House with their four-year-old son, Thomas, easier to manage.
“Our children need a respite as much as we do, so the new family rooms in THE BUILD means we will be able to stay and have enough space. That’ll be amazing for us – having the comfort to give all of us a break will be amazing.”
"Martin House offers so much support to so many people who really need it”
When their daughter Holly became seriously unwell, and doctors feared she would not recover, Julie and Lee knew they wanted her to be at Martin House. She died at the hospice, surrounded by her family, aged 24.
“There are no words that could express our gratitude for the impact Martin House had on her whole life. Just the love and the care that we’ve all had as a family, especially when she died. I feel totally indebted to them.”
“It’ll give her the experiences that she can’t always get"
Teenager Amelia and her mum Shabnam say their lives would be incomplete without Martin House. Regular visitors to the hospice since Amelia was six, Martin House has been with the family through the most difficult of times, as well as helping them to make precious memories together.
“It’s very difficult to do the normal things that normal families do. So to be able to go to Martin House and have all these new facilities will be life-changing for children like Amelia."
We've never had the opportunity to all go swimming, an activity most families take for granted. The new hydrotherapy pool at Martin House will mean we can finally take Thomas swimming in a safe environment, with his brother and sister. When you have a very poorly child, it’s the little things that really matter. Making the most out of every moment.
