Looking for a way to support Martin House? We want our supporters to have an amazing experience, have fun, make new friends, and learn a new hobby – all whilst raising vital funds for the hospice. Your money really does make a difference.

Our Strictly Get Dancing event is the perfect chance to get involved, perhaps you have a big birthday coming up and want to celebrate it in a different way? Maybe you’d like to get fit and try a different type of exercise? Or maybe you’d just like to try something new and do something amazing for Martin House. Whatever your reason, we’ll teach you how to dance at a speed and level comfortable for you (when we say we, we mean our professional dance teachers!).

Sign up with a friend, colleague or partner and take to the Strictly dancefloor at Headingley Stadium to compete for the glitterball.

You will learn to dance for 5 weeks (from Ballroom to Latin!)  and show off your moves at Headingley stadium to all your family and friends on week 6! And who knows, at the end of the night, you may be crowned our 2024 Champions and lift the prestigious glitterball!

Show Night: Saturday 9th March 2024 

Rehearsals run from 3-6pm each Sunday.

Ready to take the spotlight? Here’s the nitty gritty:

  • As a couple you’ll attend five training sessions from 3pm-6pm, at Danceology Studios in Wetherby. There will be a dress rehearsal before show night at Headingley Stadium.
  • By signing up to this challenge, we ask our dancers to raise £450 each to help us to continue to be there for families when they need it most. The events team will be on hand from the moment you sign up to help you with anything they can regarding your fundraising.
  • If you don’t already own a pair, you’ll need to invest in professional dance shoes for use at every training session and on show night.
  • Complete a medical form and agree to the terms and conditions of your booking.
  • Your entry fee is non refundable.

You’ll comply with all instructions given to you by both the dance teacher and event organiser. If you don’t comply with these instructions or terms and conditions, Martin House may, at its discretion require that you cease to take part in the training/competition with immediate effect and without compensation.

Frequently asked questions

What if I can’t make all 5 dance lessons?
Please don’t worry if you can’t make one of the lessons, we can record what you need and send it over to you, you will also be a part of a WhatsApp group and all help will be posted in there!
What if I don’t have a dance partner?
You can dance with anyone you like! Friends, family, colleagues! We are unable to find you a partner due to logistics, but we will always help you think of people you could ask!
I have never danced before, can I still take part?
Yes of course! This is a chance to raise money for martin house and learn a new skill at the same time. We have the most incredible teachers who will help turn you from Fred Flinstone to Fred Astaire
I am worried I won’t be able to raise the minimum £450 per person?
We get this question every year and we completely understand its feels like a lot of money to raise but once you get going its easier than you think! We will tell you everything you need to know on how to set up a JustGiving page and give you tips and tricks along to way to fundraise. You can also ask your employer if they match fund and this will give your fundraising a boost. Our highest fundraising couple will also win a prize on the night – so try your hardest, you never know, it could be you.
Where are the rehearsals?
Our rehearsals are held at Danceology Studios in Wetherby, 15 Erivan Park Sandbeck Way, Wetherby LS22 7DN. There may be the odd rehearsal that will be held at another location, but the events team will keep you well informed.
What should I wear to rehearsals?
We will be giving you a hoodie and t-shirt for your class of 2024, these have been kindly provided by our garment sponsor Lazanby’s Financial Services. You will also need some dance shoes but we can tell you where you can get these.
Can my friends and family come to show night?
We highly encourage you to invite your friends and family to come and watch – we will allocate each couple 20 tickets for you to sell, we can allocate more after that if you need!
How’s the winning couple chosen?
Friends and families can pay to vote on the night, so the more tickets you sell the more people in your voting corner! but we do have a judging panel on the night and they will also score you. Your dance teachers will also be voting and have a big input to who our champions will be.
Show night seems a little scary, will we practise in the venue?
Yes! On show day we will get you there for around lunch time to have a dress rehearsal, then we will get you into hair and make up to glam you up! It’s all very exciting.
