Volunteer at the hospice

We are continually developing new roles for volunteers to support the work we do at Martin House. Please do get in touch with us and let us know about your skills, experience and interests. We will contact you if a volunteer position becomes available.

Volunteer Events Fundraising Assistant

The volunteering opportunity that we are offering is to assist within the Martin House events fundraising team, providing crucial support to the existing events team. This volunteer role would either begin in September 2018 to September 2019 or be for a 6 month period from January to June 2019.

Toy Cleaning and Play Room Tidying

This is a key position supporting the work of our care and housekeeping teams. Main duties would include: keeping toys and dressing-up clothes clean and hygienic, checking toys to ensure they are in working order and other associated cleanliness duties related to the playroom.

Ironing Assistant

Our ironing assistants support our housekeepers and keep hospice laundry and linen stores tidy and organised.  They use laundry equipment to wash, dry and iron parent's and children's bedding and clothes and also fold towels and napkins.

Maintenance

We are fortunate to have a small number of volunteers who regularly come in to help our maintenance team. Volunteers help us with tasks such as:

  • repairing the children’s bikes and toys or changing light bulbs

  • maintaining the children's computers

  • small jobs around the buildings and grounds

Driving

We have a team of volunteers who spend their time driving and running errands, collecting and delivering collection boxes, collecting donated goods and delivering them to the shops.

Reception

Reception volunteers have a variety of tasks which include answering the phone, making drinks, greeting families and visitors at the door, counting money, photocopying, laminating items for the Care Team or Fundraising, helping process incoming post and franking outgoing post.

The office can be a very busy environment at times so it is important to be flexible and have a good sense of humour, being sensitive to the constantly changing situations which occur during any given day.

Catering

A number of our volunteers help out in the kitchen, baking cakes and helping with meals. These volunteers work closely with Robin, our resident chef.

Gardening

We have a committed team of volunteers who support our Gardener with maintaining the spacious gardens around Martin House and keeping them looking beautiful all year round.
