24 Hour Video Game-a-thon Tips

A 24 hour gaming marathon is an epic accomplishment, but be aware that it can come with side effects. Below is our guide to playing safe. If you have questions, please visit our FAQs page.

Tips on keeping safe during the game-a-thon

We want to ensure that you have a great time during your gaming challenge, so please look after yourself throughout the 24 hours. The following are some important tips on keeping safe and looking after your mind and body during the course of the event.

  • Make sure you are well rested and get plenty of sleep the night before. If you do get tired, take a nap. You can always complete the 24 hours when you wake up.

  • Take a lot of breaks from the screen – stretch, walk about and rest your eyes for however long you need to.

  • Stay well hydrated by drinking a lot of water and avoid drinking too much caffeine

  • Eat energising, healthy foods to fuel your body for the 24 hours such as nuts, seeds, fruit, veg and lean protein

  • Remember! Listen to your mind and body - if at any point you feel dizzy, sick or generally unwell, stop playing immediately and alert a member of staff.

If your health, ability to play or your safety for this event is a concern, please talk to your doctor first.

Keeping focused

However experienced you are at gaming, 24 hours is a very long time, so try to keep yourself motivated. A few ideas on how to maintain motivation:

  • Create a JustGiving page and share your challenge over social media to make as many friends and family aware of your fundraising aims and efforts.

  • Remember – all the money that you raise goes to Martin House Children’s Hospice, which relies on supporters like you to ensure that we can continue to provide our care service.

  • It’s a challenge! We will be having a number of leagues throughout the 24 hours, mixing it up with different types of games and consoles, so there’s no chance of getting bored!

  • Don’t forget, eDen will live stream from the venue so that all your friends can tune in at any time to see how you are getting on and donate throughout the day.

The fun bit...

eDen is fully equipped with an array of gaming platforms from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Gamecube and twelve custom built, high spec gaming PCs! With a range of games to choose from, eDen has everything you need for this event.

  • On arrival, the eDen team will explain the ordering of events for your challenging 24 hours ahead. If you have any questions about the equipment, they will be able to help.

eDen can hook you up to Twitch, to stream your game play or you can post on your social media to keep your sponsors updated.
