Driving Volunteers and Drivers' Mates
The volunteer role: Retail Driver/Driver’s Mate
Reports to: Retail Management Team
Location: Thorp Arch Warehouse, Martin House Hospice, shops and other locations as required.
Current vacancies: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
This is a key position supporting the work of our retail operations.
The role includes the following areas of responsibility:
- Collecting items donated by the public from various locations, and delivering such items to our shops and warehouse.
- Performing a visual check of vehicle(s) you would be using on the day, and signing the vehicle(s) out.
- Using Sat Nav, Google Maps or the most appropriate navigation system for travelling to various locations.
- Lifting and moving objects and bags of donated goods.
- Representing Martin House outside the hospice.
Commitment: We hope that you would be able to provide a minimum of half a day per week (hours within the day vary according to the needs of the business), but we can be flexible with time committment.
Applicant qualities and experience:
- Organised
- A flexible and positive approach
- Personable when working face-to-face with members of the public
- Adaptability to the role’s requirements
Full training and supervision will be given on the vehicles we use, manual handling, health and safety, and customer care.
We will reimburse reasonable expenses. A full, clean driving license is essential unless you are applying for the role of ‘Driver’s Mate’ in which case you will not be operating a vehicle. Volunteers are invited to attend an annual hospice-wide training day which includes other areas of our work. Volunteers are invited to join the Martin House Volunteer Forum (more information available on request).
