Volunteer at the hospice

Our volunteer roles based at the hospice are varied, helping out with everything from driving to reception, from the garden to fundraising! We are continually developing new roles for volunteers to support the work we do at Martin House. Please do get in touch with us and let us know about your skills, experience and interests, but remember we offer full training for any role you wish to volunteer in. Read on to see a few examples of the roles available.

Reception volunteers have a variety of tasks which include answering the phone, making drinks, greeting families and visitors at the door, counting money, photocopying, laminating items for the care team or fundraising, helping process incoming post and franking outgoing post.

Toy Cleaning and Play Room Tidying

This role supports the work of our care and housekeeping teams. Main duties would include: keeping toys and dressing-up clothes clean, checking toys to ensure they are in working order and making sure the playroom is kept clean and tidy.

Ironing Assistant

Our ironing assistants support our housekeepers and keep hospice laundry and linen stores tidy and organised.

We have a number of volunteers who regularly come in to help our maintenance team. Volunteers help us with tasks such as repairing the children’s bikes and toys or changing light bulbs; maintaining the children's computers; and small jobs around the buildings and grounds.

We have a team of volunteers who spend their time driving and running errands, collecting and delivering collection boxes, collecting donated goods and delivering them to the shops.

A number of our volunteers help out in the kitchen, baking cakes and helping with meals. These volunteers work closely with Robin, our resident chef.

We have a team of volunteers who support our Gardener with maintaining the spacious gardens around Martin House and keeping them looking beautiful all year round.
