The volunteer role: Reception Volunteer
Reports to: Hospice Receptionist
Location: Martin House Hospice, Boston Spa, LS23
Current vacancies: Mondays 10am-2pm

This is a key position supporting the work of our main receptionist at the hospice. Reception volunteers are often the first person that people visiting the hospice for many different reasons meet.

The role includes:
  • Welcoming visitors (families, fundraisers, deliveries, the general public etc)
  • Operating the hospice telephone switchboard by answering and redirecting telephone calls
  • The use of the hospice calendar and meeting room bookings
  • Directing contractors and medical professionals to the right members of staff
  • Counting and amalgamating money
  • Photocopying and laminating
  • Weighing and franking outgoing post, and helping with incoming post

  • Ability to respond appropriately to a variety of situations

Full training and supervision will be given on the use of our telephone and I.T. systems.If working over the lunchtime period, lunch will be provided. Volunteers are invited to attend an annual hospice-wide training day which includes other areas of our work.Volunteers are invited to join the Martin House Volunteer Forum (more information available on request).
