Community Ambassador


The volunteer role: Community Ambassador 
Reports to: Regional Fundraiser 
Location: In the local community

This is a key position in the community, supporting the work of our Fundraising Team.
As a confident public speaker, you’ll be out and about giving talks about Martin House and explaining what we do.
Supporting our Community Fundraisers would involve speaking to local clubs, associations or schools, to help ensure that local people know about the far-reaching services we provide, and how to access them.
We also hope that our Ambassadors will increase volunteering, and fundraising support for Martin House.
 
Commitment:
2 to 4 hours, per fortnight. This would be for a minimum of 6 months.
 
The role includes the following areas of responsibility:
  • Become familiar with the work of Martin House in general, and our services in your local area and across the region.
  • Research and book talks with organisations which welcome outside speakers at meetings
  • Liaise with the Community Fundraiser, with regard to existing contacts in the community
  • Deliver engaging and motivational talks (using prepared scripts as guides, which will be provided)
  • Pass any donations and expressions of interest in supporting Martin House back to the Community Fundraiser as quickly as possible
  • Keep a record of approaches made and talks given
  • Occasionally represent the charity at local events and cheque presentations.
 
Applicant qualities:
  • Good communication skills and, in particular, confidence in public speaking
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Good organisational skills
  • Willingness to ask people to support Martin House through volunteering and/or fundraising.
 
 
Support you will receive from Martin House, and your involvement in our organisation includes:
  • Regular contact with the Regional Fundraiser responsible for the area
  • You will gain valuable experience and understanding of the services Martin House offer
  • You will be part of the work of a highly regarded UK charity
  • Volunteers and Ambassadors are invited to attend an annual hospice-wide training day which includes other areas of our work
  • Volunteers and Ambassadors are invited to join the Martin House Volunteer Forum (more information available on request)
  • We will reimburse reasonable expenses.
 
Full training and supervision will be given as appropriate for the role.

We ask all our staff and volunteers to follow Martin House policies and procedures.
 
We will need you to complete documentation relating to the role (including driver documentation if you choose to drive whilst volunteering).
