Shop Manager - Knaresborough

Salary: £18,032.00 - £21,194.00 - dependant on experience (pro rata for part time)
Hours of work: 35 hours - over a 5/7 rota
Contract type: Permanent, full time

Martin House has been caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions from West, North and East Yorkshire for more than 30 years. Every year we care for more than 420 families at our hospice in Boston Spa, in hospitals and in their own homes. We also support more than 150 bereaved families each year.

In this varied role you will be instrumental to making sure the shop is at the hub of the local community. Our Knaresborough shop is a popular, busy shop amongst the bustling market square of Knaresborough. You will act as the face of Martin House, raising funds and increasing public awareness of what we do, out in the community.

This role will be a very ‘hands on’ role and needs a consistent approach to driving income. A friendly presence in the community will ensure a successful supply of donors and customers. As store manager you will work with the Assistant Manager and use your resourcefulness to drive the business forwards. You will manage volunteers, meaning excellent interpersonal skills are essential for engaging and empowering your volunteer workforce.

  • have a passion for fashion and/or experience in a retail environment
  • a business flair to spot opportunities to make improvements to the shop and capitalise on fundraising potential
  • be creative and innovative, for example making inviting and interesting shop window displays, utilising social media to draw people into the shop
  • excellent communication and relationship building skills, be able to inspire your staff and volunteers
