A lucky Beverley woman will drive away in a brand new Citroen C1 after winning this year’s Martin House Grand Car Raffle.

Marian Bean, 69, was picked from over 23,500 tickets to win the car raffle, which including ticket sales and additional donations has raised nearly £33,000 this year.

Marian, who has supported Martin House for six years, said: “It was a real shock when I got the call to say I’d won – I just couldn’t believe it. I’m over the moon and delighted to have won, it’s wonderful to have this car.”

Since its launch in 2011, the Grand Car Raffle has raised more than £300,000 for Martin House, which cares for children and young people with life-shortening conditions from across West, North and East Yorkshire, along with supporting their families.

Becky Beevers, partnership manager at Martin House, said: “We’re delighted with the success of this year’s car raffle, which has raised so much over the last nine years. We’d like to thank everyone who bought a ticket and we hope Marian enjoys using their new car!”

“We’d also like to thank our sponsors HARIBO and Evans Halshaw Citroen Leeds, who have supported the car raffle from day one, which means the money raised goes straight to supporting children and young people.”

Bethan Rawstron, of HARIBO, said: “It was lovely to see Marian’s fantastic reaction when she collected the keys. It sounds like the car will have a wonderful impact on her life, just like the raffle money, which will support so many children and young people at Martin House. A huge thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and showed their support.”

Peter Dean, dealer principal at Evans Halshaw Citroen Leeds, said: “It’s an honour to continue supporting Martin House, and knowing what a difference the money the car raffle has raised makes to families who need its support.”
