Go loud for Children's Hospice Week

19 May 2017
Fundraisers are urged to go loud to raise money for Martin House Hospice Care for Children and Young People as it joins in this year’s Children’s Hospice Week.

Martin House is taking part in UK charity Together for Short Lives week-long campaign, which takes place 22-28 May, with the theme #UpTheVolume.

The campaign will be turning up the volume on children’s palliative care to raise awareness about the needs of seriously ill children and to celebrate lifeline services that children and families rely on.

Martin House supports children and young people, and their families, living with a life-limiting condition throughout North, West and East Yorkshire, both at its hospice in Boston Spa and in the community. Many of these children have complex health conditions and need round the clock care.

Children’s Hospice Week is the UK's only awareness and fundraising week for these remarkable children and families, and the amazing children’s hospice and palliative care services that support them across the UK.

Martin House will be celebrating with art and music-themed activities at the hospice throughout the week.

Clair Holdsworth, director of care at Martin House, said: “The services we provide range from respite care, symptom control, emergency care and end of life care.

“But what that means to the families we care for is so much more. It can mean a good night’s sleep for parents who normally have to be up several times a night with their child.

“It’s a chance for children to create music and art with the help of our specialists, or to take trips out. It’s giving families time to spend together making memories, while we take the strain of the complex care their child requires.”
