Fundraising with a Sparkle for Children’s Hospice

09 May 2016
Martin House Hospice Care for Children and Young People hosted their prestigious Glitter Ball at Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate, on Friday 6th May. Now an annual event and one of the charity’s most successful fundraisers, the Glitter Ball has this year raised in excess of £50,000 for families across West, North and East Yorkshire.

Over 400 people attended from local businesses and members of the community, including celebrity ambassadors Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry, along with fellow members of the Emmerdale cast. Guests were welcomed with a champagne reception and music courtesy of jazz quartet, Sax Anonymous from Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Otley. The hospice’s newly appointed Director of Fundraising, Jodie Shepherd, was on hand with host, Jon Hammond, to open the evening.

After a three-course dinner, several lucky guests went home with more than anticipated as winners in the Grand Prize Draw. Prizes included an evening in Rudding Park’s private cinema, a meal for two and overnight stay at the Monk Bar Hotel, York, and a £250 voucher for a Michael Kors handbag, all kindly donated by Martin House supporters. Once again, party band HUGE provided music on the night for those eager to get on their dancing shoes.

Corporate Fundraiser and head of the Glitter Ball committee, Brenda Peel, said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped to make this event so successful. Without the hard work and dedication of our committee members, staff and volunteers, as well as the support of local people and businesses on the night, this would simply not have been possible. With over £5.5 million needed this year to provide our services to the families that need them, events like the Glitter Ball are more important than ever and I cannot emphasise enough how grateful we are to all involved.”
