Our Patron

The Lord Archbishop of York, The Most Revd. & Rt. Hon. Dr. John Sentamu

"I am delighted to be Patron of Martin House Hospice. It was wonderful to spend time with the volunteers of the Hospice at Bishopthorpe Palace to celebrate the Hospice’s 25th anniversary year in 2012.

When I came to York and was inaugurated in 2005 as Archbishop in York Minster, a collection was made for a charity I hadn’t heard of before.  It was Martin House Hospice.   I have always liked to do what I can to support it ever since. I am always struck by the positivity and joy that comes from everyone at Martin House, despite the sadness of why the hospice exists. God has called some wonderful people to serve in that place to be a blessing to the children and families they care for.
The £6 million needed annually to provide this care and help for terminally ill children and their families comes nearly entirely from private contributions. That means a lot of fundraising!

In Yorkshire, we understand the importance of looking out for others and being a good neighbour. We know that it’s important to be there in the good times and in the bad times.  I know times are tough for everyone, but you can make a real difference for these families by giving what you can to ensure this valuable work continues."
