Bereavement Counsellor

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a qualified counsellor with relevant post-qualification experience to join Martin House Hospice’s highly motivated bereavement team.

The team offer bereavement counselling to the whole family, which means that meetings can sometimes be with parents and surviving siblings; they can be with a parent alone, with couples or sometimes with a grandparent as needed. This post would also include some group work for adults and/or children.

Bereavement support / counselling has always been offered to the families who have used Martin House but following a successful 3 year pilot the team is now permanently expanding its offer to cover any family within the Martin House catchment area that has experienced the death of a baby, child or young person.

The post is part time 24 hours/3 days per week and some flexibility of working days would be beneficial. There may be opportunity to increase these hours in the future.

The post holder will be expected to work within Martin House, in family homes and in a variety of community locations covering all of West, East and North Yorkshire and The Humber. As a consequence it is essential the successful applicant is able to travel to all areas, including those in rural locations not easily accessible by public transport.
