Ryan meets new chief executive

08 August 2017
Yorkshire cricketer and Martin House ambassador Ryan Sidebottom has met new chief executive Martin Warhurst as he prepares for his testimonial year events this summer.

Ryan stopped in at Martin House to say hello to the new boss before the start of a series of fundraising events taking place in August and September.

Martin said: “It was a pleasure to meet Ryan and learn more about his role as ambassador at Martin House. I’m looking forward to meeting all of our ambassadors in the coming months – they play such an important role in representing us and supporting our work.”

Martin House is one of Ryan’s chosen charities for his testimonial year, along with the Ryan Sidebottom Cricket Foundation, which provides long-term coaching scholarships to underprivileged children.

Ryan has been an ambassador for Martin House for the last three years, attending numerous fundraising events. He is retiring after a 20-year record-breaking career as an England and Yorkshire swing bowler.

Ryan said: “Spending time at Martin House is always a joy, and it was great to meet Martin for the first time. I’m also delighted my testimonial year will help to continue the tremendous work it does for families.”

His testimonial events launch with a Mingle at Harrogate’s Everyman Cinema on Thursday 17th August at 7pm, where ITV Calendar presenter Duncan Wood will interview Ryan and rugby league player Stuart Fielden, along with a reception and free raffle draw.

A family cricket day takes place on Saturday 19th August from 1.30pm at Thorpe Arch and Boston Spa cricket ground, where the home team will take on Ryan’s Celebrity XI. One person can bid for a place on Ryan’s team, and all the team shirts will be signed and auctioned off after the match. There will also be a bouncy castle and face painting, with a hog roast and live band after the game.

The centrepiece event is testimonial celebration gala black tie dinner at Centenary Pavilion, Leeds, on Thursday 31st August, which will be hosted by England’s Graeme Swann, along with a four-course dinner, grand auction and disco.

Ryan’s testimonial year is rounded off with a second celebrity XI at Harrogate St George’s Road against the Druids Cricket Club on Friday 1st September at 6pm, followed by an informal Q&A with Ryan and Arnie Sidebottom at Pikehills Golf Club in York on Thursday 7th September. There is also an online auction of sporting memorabilia and grand prizes, which runs until Thursday 31st August.
