Celebrating Volunteers Week

01 June 2019
Martin House volunteers were invited to a special celebration lunch to mark this year's Volunteers Week.

Dozens of volunteers who support Martin House came to enjoy lunch and homemade cakes as part of Volunteers Week, which runs from June 1st to 7th.

Heather Griffiths, volunteer co-ordinator at Martin House, said: "We have around 350 volunteers who give up their time to support Martin House in all kinds of ways. We were delighted to see so many of them come along so we could show our appreciation of everything they do for us."

The majority of Martin House's volunteers help to staff its chain of 12 charity shops, but there are many other roles they do to help.

This includes maintaining Martin House's gardens, delivering goods to shops and customers, office admin tasks, helping to run reception, carrying out vehicle maintenance checks, helping chefs prepare food for families, running friends' groups, helping at Martin House events, and much more.

Heather added: "Our volunteers save us at least £500,000 every year, and give us over 64,000 hours of their time, but the value of what they do can't just be measured in money.

"Without our volunteers, we couldn't continue to care for the children, young people and their families who need our support, so we want to say a huge thank you to everyone for giving up their time to make a real difference."
