Brighter bedrooms thanks to new boards

28 March 2018
The bedrooms at Martin House will have a bright new welcome thanks to new blackboards created for us by Jennyruth Workshops.

Jennyruth, which works with adults with learning disabilities, created the cloud-shaped boards which will hang in all children's bedrooms in the House and in Whitby Lodge.

They will be used to write welcome message for children and young people staying at Martin House, as well as things like writing to do lists for their visits, and a space for them and their siblings to get creative.

Georgie Crowe, care team member, said: "We wanted something smarter, to make children feel welcome when they arrive and somewhere they can personalise their room while they stay with us.

"The boards look absolutely brilliant, and we think they'll be a huge success."

Jennyruth Workshops, near Ripon, designed and made the boards in collaboration with Martin House.

Mark Scott, from Jennyruth, said: "We have a range of products we make, as well as bespoke items like the blackboards.

"It enables us and the adults we work with to make a really positive contribution to the community, and that we are about ability, not just disability. Our workers see the design process through from start to finish, which is very satisfying for them."

Georgie and Mark are pictured with Daniel, who also attends Martin House, and Ryan, who both helped to make the boards.
