Bradford Sportive launches fundraising year

01 February 2018
A brand new cycling event in Bradford will launch Martin House Hospice Care for Children and Young People’s fundraising year.

The Bradford Sportive, on Sunday 29th April, is the first mass participation event Martin House has staged in the city.

It will have three routes – 17 miles, 48 miles and 64 miles – to appeal to novice riders, families and more experienced cyclists.

Chris Verney, Bradford fundraiser at Martin House, said: “Nearly a third of the families we support come from the Bradford district, so we felt it was only right we brought our new event here.

“Following the success of the Tour de Yorkshire, and with Bradford’s own claim as a capital of cycling, there is clearly an appetite for a large-scale cycling event in the city.

“We’ve also got three unique routes which have never been done before, so they should present a new challenge to everyone taking part.”

The sportive starts and finishes at Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, and there will also be a family fun day there to coincide with the event.

The longer routes include the beautiful scenery around Oxenhope, Cragg Vale and up towards Colne, while the shortest loops around Wainstalls.

There are places for up to 600 cyclists, and places cost £20 for the 17-mile route and £25 for the two longer routes. There is also a £30 family ticket (two adults and up to three children aged eight and above) for the short route.

The event is being sponsored by Bradford firms AWB Charlesworth and Sovereign Healthcare, meaning more of the money raised will go to caring for children and young people.

Chris added: “This is a perfect event for serious cyclists, families or for groups of friends or work colleagues to enter together. All we ask is that riders raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship, and everyone who does will receive a free goody bag.”
