Airedale shopping centre raises nearly £10k

10 July 2017
Shoppers in Keighley have helped Airedale Shopping Centre raise more than £9,700 for Martin House.

The shopping centre supported Martin House as its charity of the year between April 2016 and March 2017, following a vote by its tenants.

During the year the centre organised a series of events, including a Santa’s grotto, wishing well, wrapping service, family fun day and summer activities, which has made £9,752.60 for Martin House.

Steve Seymour, centre manager, said: “I’ve been centre manager here for six years, and this is the most we have raised in any year for our chosen charity. It’s a phenomenal amount, and we’ve given ourselves until October to bring it over the £10,000 mark.

“It has been a busy year and we’re delighted to have raised so much for such a great cause.”

Martin House was nominated by Liam McQuaid of Raffles Jeweller’s in the centre. He and his wife Anna have fundraised for the hospice, which cared for their baby son Niall when he died in 2006.

Liam said: “We have always supported Martin House, and we always will. I think when people hear that it’s Martin House and a children’s hospice, it makes a big impact. Steve, and his team have been a great support and it’s lovely that the centre chose to support Martin House this year.”

Chris Verney, Bradford community fundraiser for Martin House, said: “We are blown away by the generosity of the people of Keighley, and are so grateful for all their support.

“We’d also like to thank the tenants of Airedale Shopping Centre for choosing Martin House as their charity of the year, and Steve and the centre management team for all their hard work in organising such a successful year. This huge amount of money will make a big difference to the children and young people we care for.”
