Martin House is managed by a Board of Trustees who are governed by a memorandum and articles of association. The Trustees are responsible for the overall philosophy and policy of Martin House and are accountable for the solvency and continuing effectiveness of the hospice. The day to day management of Martin House is delegated to the Head of Care and the Head of Finance & Administration.
To provide the full range of care in the two facilities and in the community, we have a care team of 64 full time equivalent staff with a wide range of skills, including sick children's nurses, registered general nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, teachers, nursery nurses, social worker, artist in residence, youth worker, chaplain and music therapists. A bank of extra staff is available to cover emergencies and sickness. In addition we have a clinical psychologist on the team and the medical cover is provided by a consultant in paediatric palliative care, three doctors and a GP from our local practice. They collectively provide cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our fund-raising team consists of a fund-raising manager, assisted by five fund-raisers and a small team of clerical staff. General administration, garden and maintenance duties are taken care of by a small support team and we have a chef and a small team of housekeepers. Furthermore, we are extremely grateful to all the unpaid volunteers who help us in various ways with fund-raising, administration, maintenance, garden and kitchen duties on a regular basis.
The staff at each of our three shops includes a paid manager and a relief/deputy manger. They are helped by a large number of unpaid volunteers to whom we are also extremely grateful.
Education
The education and training of our staff is vitally important to ensure that the children and families receive the highest possible standard of care. Martin House recognises that the staff involved in the varied work of the hospice is its most important resource. All staff members have access to and opportunities for professional development at Martin House.
We also share our knowledge and help facilitate training opportunities for other health care professionals at local, national and international level.
