Centre Stage 2016 - Terms & Conditions

  • The competition is organised and promoted by Martin House Children’s Hospice.
  • The main prize is to play at BOTH Leeds and Reading 2016. Transport and chaperoning are the responsibility of the act/ their families. Festival Republic generously offer complimentary guest and crew passes for both sites.
  • Entry to Centre Stage 2016 is open to all young musicians/bands  in Yorkshire. Acts can include bands, vocal groups and solo artists of all genres.  All entrants must be over 11yrs (in secondary ed.) and the majority of band members to be 22yrs or younger**.  All entrants under 18yrs  must inform their parents or legal guardians of their entry into the competition and must enter their details on the online form.
  • Acts can enter either through a school or college, or independently. The benefit of securing the support of school/college is that, in theory, they would support you in your fundraising and help to raise the profile of Martin House within their institution.
  • As Centre Stage is an important fundraising initiative for Martin House, each school/band/act will be asked to fundraise for us, for the ongoing care of our children and families.  Should you need any advice, Martin House will be delighted to offer ideas on how easily this amount can be raised!
  • At least £50 is due on registration, through the Martin House website, and is non-refundable.
  • All acts must then fundraise at least £400 by the Heat Finals in April 2016.
  • Finalists must reach a target of at least £1000 and the final instalment must be paid by July’s Final.
  • Schools/acts should complete and return this Registration Form. We advise return as soon as possible to be guaranteed an entry, as places are limited and demand is even higher… also, early entry allows you more time to fundraise!
  • ‘The Heats’ will take place in April (dates and venue to be announced soon) in front of a professional, music industry judging panel. The set time will be confirmed nearer the date. The performance will need to be original with backing track and/or live support.  On completion of ‘The Heats’, the judges will review all of the acts and successful competitors will be invited to perform and compete live at ‘The Final’.
  • ‘The Final’ will take place in July 2016 (date to be confirmed) at O2 Academy, Leeds, in front of a capacity audience and top industry judging panel. Further guidelines will be provided to the finalists nearer the time.
  • Entrants have a responsibility to sell designated tickets for both ‘The Heats’ and ‘The Final’.
  • Entrants must acknowledge and agree to abide fully by the rules and regulations for this competition and obey all instructions in force or given by a member of Martin House and/or any location staff  in connection with the competition.
  • Entrants must acknowledge that Martin House reserve the right to amend the rules, venues or terminate the competition at any time without liability. The judges’ decisions shall be final. We also reserve the right to disqualify any contestant if they supply untruthful, inaccurate or misleading personal details and/or information, or if they are deemed to be acting outside the spirit of the competition.
**this of course is within reason. For example, if four members of the band are 16-18yrs old and one band member is 23yrs old.
